| Rhenus Pater - Father Rhine | | The Rhine is probably one of the most famous rivers in Europe. With its over 1,200 km / 760 miles length, it is also one of the waterways with the most traffic worldwide. Rhenus, the river god, is best known as the namesake of the river Rhine. During the Rhine Romantic period from the end of the 18th century to late in the 19th this was an extremely popular motif for a broad range of works of art. The name Rhenus Pater probably dates back to the classical art period, but the Rhine River doesn’t only have an intriguing history, but also many wonderful places along its banks including the world heritage site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, also known as the Rhine Gorge.
